Pencil Tests on Youtube →
youtube.com
I made a youtube channel as a sort of backup for this blog. It will mostly contain pencil tests I’ve already posted here but haven’t seen on youtube before (stuff I composited or added the sound to myself) and things too long or too big to post here. It doesn’t have much yet, but i’m slowly adding things.

Hello. I was wondering... Do you know what do the different colored lines mean? I notice them most in pencil tests for The Last Airbender.
Colors are often used during the clean-up process to help the colorists differentiate between shadows, highlights and things like effects animation which can get confusing in just black and white.

It seems to be most prevalent in productions animated in Japan or Korea, and is often times used more for action-based cartoons. The more you have going on on-screen, the more useful it becomes to differentiate things by color.
