“One Hundred and One Dalmatians” (1961)
I added these two tests into the scene from the film they originated.
Both animated by Milt Kahl.

heavywoodenbox asked: do you think you can show some miyazaki hayao animation?
Anonymous asked: Hi! Just wanted to let you know first off that you're awesome and this blog is wonderful. Secondly, I was wondering if there was any possible way you can make these videos download-able? Like, just in case if you take down your blog or you're forced to remove the videos. If you can't it's okay, I was just wondering. ^^;; Thirdly... you're amazing.
bagchan asked: Hey Henry! I have a question about some of the pencil tests, Do you know what recording program they use to record? Or what program they use to edit it with the background behind it or overlaying two separate recordings together?

It’s on TV right now and I was reminded that I had this one. A bit of Hyena antics. Enjoy!

I’m pretty sure I’ve already posted this before, but I’m doing it again because I like it so much.
A test from the upcoming “Avatar: Legend of Korra”, which will premiere (hopefully) later this spring.
To anyone who is as big a fan as I am of the Avatar series, they have a fan club on facebook now.
Check out the Tumblr of Bryan Konietzko, too, one of the creators...
characterarcade asked: I really, really love this blog. You do such a great job and I always love seeing your posts on my dash. I do have just one request. Would it be possible to see some Adventure Time pencil tests?
Anonymous asked: I don't know if it's ever been asked of you before, but when did you first start animating, or at least begin to have an interest in it?

Riding the wave off that Glen Keane post, here we have a shot from “Oliver and Company” 1988, by none other than Mr. Keane himself.
Anonymous asked: do you have any pencil tests on fox and the hound or 101 dalmations? I would greatly appreciate it if you did

And here’s a fun clip about Glen Keane’s process for improving the animation on Tangled. He would draw over the shot as a reference for the animators so they could push the animation to be as good as it can be.

Here’s the actual video of the Rapunzel pencil test by Glen Keane. Thanks to everyone who helped me find this stuff!

Anonymous asked: I hear there's pencil tests for Tangled. Is there any chance you can find some?

I had a request for Looney Tunes tests. This is the only one I have ever seen.
Animated by Ken Harris.

Here’s a fun one.
A “Fred Moore girl” animated by Ollie Johnston in the early 40s. It’s assumed it was for a propaganda film of some sort for the US troops. Not the kind of stuff you normally get to see from Disney artists.
theworldisfine asked: Could you link to an AVI file of the longer version of the Shere Khan pencil test please? I think Youtube and Vimeo would be better off for it :)

I have a huge packet of still key frames from Avatar, so I’ve decided to go through and sync them to sound and insert them in the scene they came from. It takes a while to do, so I’ll post them as I complete them.
